Intergenerational Day Care
Verde Valley Intergenerational Day Care
Intergenerational shared-site day care describes a facility
where child and adult day care providers share a campus or building
and mutual resources.
This concept takes the intergenerational philosophy a step
further by bringing two traditionally segregated institutions
together into an age-integrated environment. There are numerous
models of successful Intergenerational shared-site day care
across the country and world. They range from highly integrated,
under one roof sites to separate buildings on a common campus.
Research on these sites have shown that they are very effective
in the use of agency and community resources through the sharing
of staff, equipment, space and expansion of the market and funding
base. Shared-site day care allows for a high degree of interaction
both in a planned and spontaneous manner between children, youth,
seniors, staff and family members.
Light Heart believes supporting the creation of a shared-site
day care in our community meets the critical child care and
respite needs of the Verde Valley while providing a perfect
opportunity to bring diverse agencies, organizations and community
members together in innovative and sustainable ways.
Through offering educational opportunities to community members,
leaders, businesses and local policy makers, Light Heart hopes
to be a part of inspiring discussion and insight into this concept.
