Inter-generate !™
Intergenerational Resource Center
Light Heart Foundation has been conducting Intergenerational
projects and programs for 10 years. Three years ago, the founder,
Beth Carrigan, partnered with Generations United of Yavapai
County (GUYC) and aligned with their mission to support community
leaders and organizations to intentionally incorporate Intergenerational
concepts into their approaches.
To this end, Light Heart committed to providing educational
opportunities and resources for Verde Valley communities who
want to learn more about Intergenerational ideas.
A Learning Opportunity
We have heard about Generation X or the Baby Boomers but what
do these labels and definitions really tell us about ourselves
and each other? Do they assist us in understanding how to build
successful relationships across the ages or do they contribute
to stereotyping and isolation between generations?
These are some of the questions and ideas we explore in an
interactive learning opportunity regularly offered by Light
Heart called Inter-generate !™ This workshop is designed
to inspire awareness and to help promote positive and creative
relationships throughout our lifespan. Our intended outcome
is not only to inform you, the participant, but also to inform
Light Heart with your experiences and insights into the topics
covered.
During this time together we view a 15 minute film on 5 national
Intergenerational programs. Participants then engage in fun
and meaningful exercises and discussions on a dynamic asset-based
community building process that evokes insights into the possibilities
of how people can work intergenerationally to address challenges
and meet community needs.
Topics Covered
• The History of the Intergenerational movement
• Addressing age stereotyping & conflict
• Assets of each life stage
• Elements of successful Intergenerational Strategies
• How to incorporate Intergenerational Strategies into
your family, organizational mission statements, community policies,
programs and economic development plans.
Teachers, college interns, activity directors,
businesses, administrators, city council members and volunteers
are just a few people who attend Inter-generate
!™ The skills and insights
learned, have been incorporated into mission statements, policy
and program planning and economic development strategies. C.E.U.s
can be obtained.
